Detailed information about this hike |
Highlights of this hike: 1. This hike covers the restored Jinshanling Great Wall, the unrestored Jinshanling Great Wall and part of Simatai West Great Wall: an excellent chance for you to compare and contrast what the wall may have looked like when they were originally finished, and how it looks after about 600 years of exposure to the elements; 2. Awesome views for photographers: These sections of Great Wall are quite popular amongst photographers with breathtaking views; 3. Fit for both family with kids and very fit hikers. There are a few different trails along the whole Great Wall which lead you down to the parking lot; 4. Chinese local family visit and Chinese home-made lunch; 5. Small group of maximum of 15 travelers. The group usually has 4-12 travelers; 6. No commission shopping stops.
Price and discount: The cost is 450 per person. It includes transportation, entrance fees, water, lunch and guides. We give 10% discount for students, members and kids under 12’s.
Detailed itinerary: We will meet at 8am and will get to the Jinshanling Great Wall at around 11am. Jinshanling Great Wall has an elevation of 2100 feet. Though there is a cableway up to the Wall, its gentle gradient makes it easy to walk up to the wall. As there are relatively few tourists at Jinshanling Great Wall, it is a good place to explore on foot.
Jinshanling Great Wall is one of the best preserved parts of the Wall with many original features. There are 15 watch towers along this section, built with flat roofs or upturned eaves. Some watch towers have two stories even three stories. There are a few trails which lead the travelers down the Great Wall. You can decide how far you will walk on the Great Wall depending on your personal fitness. Usually we will walk on the wall for about 3 hours eastward and reach the Kylin Tower.
From the Kylin Tower if you are still energetic, we will guide you continue eastward to some parts of Simatai West where travelers rarely go. Simatai West has beautiful scenery with wild and ruined walls. You will be able to get good views of much of the Simatai Great Wall, including the steep eastern ridge where the famously hard-to-reach Sky Bridge and Fairy Tower are located.
We will leave the wall from the Kylin Tower and head down a paved park trail in the valley. After about thirty minutes we’ll arrive at the parking lot and meet our bus. The driver will drive us to a local guest house to have a late yet big lunch there.
Bad weather plan: We will email you 2-3 days before the hike to let you know about the weather condition. If there is thunder storm, heavy rain or strong wind we will cancel the hike, change the dates or arrange a tour to the restored section of the Great Wall.
