Detailed itinerary: On this hike we will visit a part of the Great Wall which was built in Ming Dynasty, more than 500 years ago. We will start this hike from Cliff Inscriptions Natural Park, following a relatively easy yet long hillside path to get to the Great Wall. The climb isn’t steep but it keeps going up.
We will reach a big watch tower which is very well-preserved in about one hour. From there you will get a wide view. Then we will head northwest, following the Great Wall as it winds along the mountainous ridge. This section of wall still retains its original appearance since its construction in 1580. It is a "wild" section of the Great Wall without any rebuilding. Its disrepair makes it an ideal place for adventurous hikers and photographers. You will have awesome views of mountains, villages, and the Great Wall as well. If we go hiking there at the workdays usually we won’t see anyone else on the Wall the whole day.
We will walk on the wall for about two hours, passing through many watch towers. Built stably and elegantly, different towers have different structures and appearances. Some towers are ruined and some others are still well-preserved. We have enough time to stop to look around or take pictures. If you’re looking for some truly extraordinary hiking in one of the most beautiful natural settings, then this Great Wall hike is a wonderful choice. Our walk on the Wall will end at a very well-preserved watch tower. From there we’ll follow a trail down to the Wangquanyu Walled Village. We will have a late lunch at a local farmer’s guest house after the hike and experience rural hospitality at its best.
Bad weather plan: We will email you 2-3 days before the hike to let you know about the weather condition. If there is thunder storm, heavy rain or strong wind we will cancel the hike, change the dates or arrange a tour to the restored section of the Great Wall.
